DIY Apple Pie Play Dough

My kids absolutely love play dough! It is a loads of great benefits, like, building fine motor skills, strengthening little hands, helping sensory development, and being used as a creative tool to enhance a child’s imagination! We love to make our own because this way we know exactly what is inside, and we get way more bang for our buck!

Here is our recipe for Play Dough:

  • 2 Cups Water

  • 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil

  • Food Coloring

  • 2 Cups Flour

  • 1 Cup Salt

  • 2 Teaspoons Cream of Tartar

Heat the wet ingredients on the stove, add the dry and stir till the dough forms. Allow to cool, and then knead the dough for 5 minutes. I like to add some essential oils to mine while I’m kneading it, this makes the dough smell devine!

For this Play Dough, we added red food coloring and red sparkles to make the dough look like apples. I also added cinnamon essential oil, which made it smell like a fresh baked pie! This was a fun back to school craft that my kids absolutely loved!
